Smart management for brine freezing and RSW

French company Olen has responded to fill a technology gap in the fishing sector by developing its Smart Brine Viewer system for fishing vessels with RSW systems or freezing fish in brine.

Behind Olen is Concarneau company ISI-Fish, which has a long back ground in fishing industry technology, including supplying a range of sophisticated electronics for pelagic vessels and longliners fishing for tuna and other species.

“We became aware of the fact that there was no effective technical management system for controlling this refrigeration process, so we came up with this smart management system,” said Olen’s export sales manager Jérémie Duvert.

Olen’s system are tailored to control salt content and temperature in tanks, ensuring that catches are kept in optimum condition to meet the requirements of demanding market – with Olen’s systems designed both for tuna seiners working with deep frozen products and pelagic vessels landing fresh catches in RSW.

The Smart Brine Viewer constantly monitors and manages salinity and temperatures in a vessel’s tanks.

The most recent installations are on board French tuna purse seiners operated by CFTO. Glenan’s Smart Brine Viewer was installed during a stopover in Dubai, while the system on board Gueotec was fitted in IJmuiden in Holland, with Olen staff travelling to both locations to carry out installations and commission the systems.

Olen will be exhibiting at IceFish in 2021, the company’s first time at the exhibition.

“We picked IceFish as we see this event as the best way to meet new people – new customers. suppliers, fishermen and companies in this specific sector,” he said.

“The Smart Brine Viewer is designed for the low temperatures associated with brine freezing, but we are convinced it can save energy and improve fish quality for RSW vessels – and IceFish is where we see opportunities to meet the right people in the RSW sector.”
